Running shoes have a limited life span, when they wear out they often loose shape or loose support. The risk is then that if you replace them your body will be used to the now worn shoe, so the brand new one will be different and may cause niggles or worst, injuries!
The trick is to have two pairs of your main (daily) shoe and have them on rotation, why:
-Reduces the risk of injury✅
-Pro-longs the life of the shoe✅
-Strengthens your feet and body✅
-Means you save money and also run injury free so it is a win!👍
Now I'm not saying you have to have everything in the range, 2 pairs would be ideal, if you can here's a simple yet effective way to do it.
On your main shoe, with a permanent marker put a number on the heel, say a 1, the next pair a 2, and so on as you replace them. Then lower the number the older the shoe. As a rule, they will only last 500-600km, depending on the usage, which is not that long. So, make friends with your local shoe store and support local, they will look after you in the long term as well.
In an ideal world, the pictures show a few examples.
An easy shoe, for easy runs or recovery type runs.
An everyday shoe, or the "workhorse" shoe, these are the ones to have 2 pairs of.
And a fast shoe, for your speed work or fast days. They are normally carbon plated and can save around 10 sec per km and they just feel fast!
The rick is, keep notes on how many km's they have done. And always go to a specialist shoe retailer for advice like the Shoe Clinic we have here in New Plymouth.
Enjoy the process!
