How often should you replace your tire sealant?

"How often do I replace my sealant "

This came up last week a few times after our post around Tubeless and Inserts, around how often should I top up my sealant?

It's a good question, and worth exploring so that we can get the most out of Tubeless set up and avoid the punctures..

The short answer is that it's still relatively new tech and people are still learning. If we leave the sealant in there too long it is less and less effective, an easy tell is if the valves start jamming or gunking up.

So what is the answer or time frame? In short, topping up the sealant is a "quick fix" and not the best way to do it at all. It's OK to top up at a pinch, but there is a propper way.

The best way to actually get the most out of it is to spend a little extra time and take the tires off, clean the sealant out completely, check the valves and re-fit them and ad new sealant.

It's a small amount of time and a very small cost for new sealant but it is a very solid way of being sure to get the most out of your set up.

In terms of time frame? As a start point, set your calender reminder for 3 months of normal use. And try that, if you find the sealant is almost gone then shorten that time period a little.

We can help with this, we have a full range of valves, rim tapes and sealant available and in stock both in person and our online store.

Regular change is the best way to be sure it will work.
