Blood Lactate testing-Why?

Blood Lactate Testing and why?

This came up a lot at our Camp over the weekend so it’s a good time to talk about it, why you should do it and talk about the services we offer.

There is a lot of Sports Science out there and it can be confusing, but basically, testing, or in particular Lactate Testing is a “look under the hood”.

What this means in simple terms is done correctly, its an easy and effective way to help understand your pacing for an event coming up so that you can safely ride to a number and be confident in your pacing. For day to day training it allows you to know that the training you are doing or your coach is prescribing is actually working.

For example, if you are doing a set of intervals on a regular basis, the goal in simple terms is to increase our tolerance to Lactate in the system as we get fitter. Without testing we have no real way of knowing if they are effective or not.

For an event like Ironman or 70.3, if we test regularly and then close to the event we are then able to really dial in exactly what those numbers look like, track the progress and most importantly make sure we are doing the right training to support the growth.

This applies to Running, Cycling, Swimming, and virtually any endurance sport.

Data is an amazing tool if used and translated correctly. Translation is the key here, as often we are just simply lost in the science. That where we can help.

Our goal is simply to translate the data into a very simple format you can understand.

So how do we do it? We offer a test sequence using all of the data available, Power, Heartrate and Blood Lactate levels. This is done in-house in a safe, controlled and sterile way, unique to you and your sport. Using the latest equipment and research.

We can do this for Bike testing for Cyclists and Triathletes, but also for the run as well.

You will then get an accurate set of data and zones you can use to safely go and use in your training to make sure you are training the right levels of yourself.

Ideally these tests would be performed every 5-6 weeks to make sure your training is on-point, if left to long you could be “in the hole” and wasting your sessions.

You don’t have to be coached by us to do this, we offer this to anyone who wants to test where they are at. If you are coached by us then the testing is discounted.

A simple test that can ad major value.
